My ankles suck

Earlier I had mentioned that my ankle had been bothering me after that first game. I had another game and it continued to bother me and I have went to the Dr. He told me that I have a severe case of tendonitis. Rehab will hopefully fix it but my spirit is definitely taking a beating here. I've had three surgeries on my right ankle and one on my left (which has the tendonitis). If you look at the inside of your ankle, between the ankle bone and the achilles tendon, are ligaments - that are the cause of my plight.

It is very frustrating dealing with this - yet there isn't much more that can be done. I've begun working out on a more regular basis to lose some weight, which will hopefully take some of the pressure off, but still - the damage is already done - I am just trying to manage it now.

This all started back in 2000 when I was playing volleyball and a guy landed on my ankle. For a year I kept playing on it, after the Dr had told me it was just a bad sprain. The sprain never went away and I eventually had it checked out and they found that the ligament that attaches the fibula to the heel had actually snapped and I was hitting bone on bone causing minute cracks and splintering of the bone. No wonder it hurt like hell all the time. Since that time it's been surgery after surgery trying to get it all stabilized - which works for a little while. I just don't want to end up not being able to do ANYTHING as I get older.

Life sucks whale ass

Eh - the weekend started off well enough. My wife and I went over to Clyde's and had some drinks, finger foods, I smoked a cigar and we ended the night with some adult, married, relations. Which most nights means that we just fall asleep.
Saturday was our soccer game and I liken it to how kids that have a favorite pet growing up watch it get ran over by a car right in front of their eyes. It doesn't die instantly though - it welps and cries in pain but there is nothing you can do - that was a lot like the game for me.

Sunday, was a great day of football, if you aren't a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Unfortunately for me I am - and I get way too wrapped up in it. They blew a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter and lost in overtime. Oh, they also lost their probowl Defensive End, Javon Kearse, for the entire year. Kearse done

That pretty much ruined the day and evening for me. I've attached a picture in how I feel the Eagles treated it's fans yesterday. Monday's usually suck anyway but today is especially craptacular.

PC?!

Sometimes people are just wayyy too worried about being Politically Correct - it's such a hinderance on how our society interacts with one another. There is a big difference between being rude and just saying what's on your mind - and why can't "white" people be proud of their heritage. I shouldn't be ashamed that my ancestors came from a European country

Anyway, this guys cracks me up.

Soccer

Yesterday was the first game of the season. We won 5-2, which is always a bonus, but I am way out of shape and played like warmed over dog crap. I love playing though and getting out there is nice. I have been lazy about getting back into shape, working out 2 times a week isn't enough (and I know that) so I'll get back into the gym 5-6 days a week.

My left ankle is killing me one day later and I have to admit it's got me a little worried. I'll go this week with stretching it and icing it - see how next weeks game goes. If I still have the same pain I'll go and see my Dr. I'm guessing I have a little tendonitis but we'll see.

Cigar smoker

I have come to enjoy the taste of a good cigar on a regular basis. It used to be that I would smoke a cigar here or there with friends on some "special" ocassion but I have come in to my own and probably smoke on average two a week.
I've never been a cigarette smoker and still think the smell is absolutely hideous - so I don't know what really spawned this new vice on.
One thing I do know is that smoking a cigar outside, while reading a book, is probably one of the best stress relievers I have ever found. I love it when my wife comes down stairs with me and we sit at the table and we will read (while I'm smoking) and just enjoy the company of each other. Awesome stuff.
