being cordial

This is a quick rant about how this entire area has lost the ability to say "Please, Thank you and You're Welcome". I was leaving the bank this afternoon when I saw a woman, mid 40's, coming towards the door. She was on her cell phone not paying attention to anything and I could have easily let the door shut behind me and been multiple steps away by the time she got there. Instead I decide to wait a couple of seconds and keep the door open for her.

As she is walking through the door, still gabbing away on her phone, she doesn't even look in my direction and goes right in. My good mood and desire to be a decent human just flew right out the window in a flash. This is a busy area and there were people both outside the bank and inside and I made sure that everyone heard me say in a very loud and condescending tone "YOU'RE WELCOME". People all around looked over and she snapped her head back at me and gave me the body language of "who are you to talk to me like that" but then she noticed everyone staring at her. She didn't even stop her stride but just slowed down a little and said "oh... thanks".

My blood was hot but I saw people start staring at her as the could comprehend what had just happened. This prototypical Washington D.C. woman that is somehow too good for everyone just walked past a gentleman holding the door for her. She looked like a complete ass, which she is.

I'm constantly baffled by people around here that treat others like they are sooooo much better than them. Why are kids such bastards now-a-days? Because parents can't get their own crap together and be respectful to their peers. Kids see this and don't respect their peers or anyone else around them. I can't wait for the first time I see my son not hold the door for someone - or my daughter ignore a random act of kindness. I'd slap them upside the back of their head so hard that they'd do a face plant into the ground.

Man I can't wait to move away from this area.

Bought a new lens

If you click on the title you will be directed to a review page of the lens I just bought. I'm a photography dork and this really was like Christmas early for me. I was looking to purchase a zoom lens - especially for our trip to India in December - and I did a ton of research. Though this was a bit more expensive than what I was wanting to spend the overall price/quality ratio can't be beat. I am very excited about this purchase.

This is the beauty. Don't be alarmed by the off-white color of it - it's supposed to be that way. I don't push websites but this is where I bought it from and they are perfect to work with, I definitely recommend them. B&H Photo

Kevin & Lauren wedding - and 1 year anniversary.

This weekend was our one year wedding anniversary. Wow - it was an exciting day. :-) I wish that I had some really cool story to tell you of how we did all of these extravagant things but the truth is - we didn't.

Saturday we went up to see Kevin & Lauren get married. It was very windy and very cold - and unfortunately for the girls it was outside. Meghan was miserable - along with every female I talked to. Once we got inside the girls instantly found the fireplace, along with the wine, so they slowly warmed up. Us guys went for the liquor which was, depending on how you look at it, a big mistake. No food in the stomach, an open bar where the bartender was very liberal with the liquor, and knowing that we had a driver meant some serious drinking.

All in all it was a really fun night, especially getting to hang out with some old friends that I don't get to see that much of anymore. Life kind of sucks that way sometimes.

Here are a few pictures from the night. Don't roll your eyes - if you know me at all you'd know that these are right up my personality tree.

-- Meghan and I livin it up.

-- Roger getting a little too close with his ear.

-- I'm a little angry that we have to go back to the hotel!

-- ahhhh we're all cuddled up and cute.

Eagles vs Cowboys

I had to fly down to North Carolina for work on Thursday and Friday (I hate leaving Meghan alone even if it's just for one night). When I got home Friday evening I wasn't there more than a half an hour before Jon called - and as tired as I was I always have time to talk to my boy. He commences to tell me that he just got a voicemail from one of his friends stating that he would give Jon his two Eagles tickets if Jon would give him two of his Flyers tickets. ........ wait, what!?! .......

This game is one of the biggest in years, mainly because of Terrell Owens coming back to the Linc as a division rival with the hated Cowboys. I wasn't going to miss the chance to go to the game - no way. Especially when it's free.

I had to attend an engagement party on Saturday for one of my friends so I couldn't go up to Philly until Sunday morning. I ended up leaving my place around 8:30ish and got to Jon & Rachel's at 11:00. 2 1/2 hour drive isn't too bad.

Once I got there we instantly packed up what we needed for the game, I gave Jon his birthday gifts: a box of 10 glass cased Rocky Patel cigars (1992) and this cool old school leather helmet with the Eagles logo on the front and back. He got a lot of attention because of that thing.

I don't want to write a book so let me break it down. We got on TV during the pregame show, drank Single Barrel Jack Daniels (soooo smooth), smoked Opus X's (spicy, rich, headspinner, delicious), enjoyed the beautiful sunshine, got into the stadium, saw an absolutely amazing game in which the Eagles won and TO was a non-factor .... it was perfect. The game ended with Lito Sheppard returning an INT 102 yards for a TD - the pass was inteded for, you guessed it, TO ....... Perfect.

There are some pictures of the game linked here -
PICS

There are a couple that stand out to me - but my favorite Eagle (Dawkins) having an interception is one of the best. In the middle you'll see a couple Eagles sacking Bledsoe - that was the theme of the game as they did it 7 times!

Dawkins and Lewis celebrating the interception - Dawkins doin his pose

Last but not least - I can't let you go without showing you some pic's of poor Owens .... please feel sorry for this guy, we all know he'd feel sorry for you. (yes, that is dripping with sarcasm)

He literally dropped this pass on purpose - as Lewis was going to crush him if he caught it.
Because kids may see this site I can't show you the ones of him cussing at his coaches and teammates so you get to see him sitting like a big baby - cry us a river TO.

Renaissance Festival

Meghan and I went to the Renaissance festival yesterday and we had a lot of fun. I'm not sure if we had more fun spending money on fun little things or laughing at all of these jokers that actually dress up. (no, that is not us in the picture) The people in the picture are probably the type that got married there. Yes, as awkward as that may seem, you can get married there. Dungeon's and Dragon's paradise. lol Just in case you have the desire - click the link. wedding info

Meghan did get a really cool bracelet with her birthstone in it and a cool looking Celtic cross necklace. Money well spent. My purchases consisted of the limited numbered beer stein, 3 fill ups (equates to 6) and a turkey leg. Turkey legs are awesome. I absolutely love them. As I sit there and eat it I actually turn into this little kid

We took around $120 cash and spent it on getting in, food, my stein and Meghan's necklace - and then another $300 on the bracelet. Sounds like a pretty fair deal to me. LOL! The weather was perfect and it was nice to hang out with my wife for the day. We don't get to do that a lot so the opportunity was very welcomed.
